Experience Bymarka, the forested recreation ground around the city, with its fishing ponds, cottages selling baked gods and hundreds of paths taking you into the forest year-round. Start out at Lian!
Bymarka in Trondheim is a must, with its winding paths, cottages selling home-baked bakeries and waffles and black coffee. Lian is a recreation area, going back to when it was a popular area for city dwellers to build forest cottages in the Norwegian hytte tradition. Today, most of these cottages are permanent residences. The Lian enthusiasts live and breath this area, and it is a nice area for hiking. One suggested route takes you from the Lian restaurant to Grønlia.
Take the tram from the city centre to the end of the line, Lian. Follow the road up to the Lian restaurant and continue on the path into the forest. This is a nice path through a relatively flat terrain. It is a good idea to wear solid, water-resistant shoes, as the path is often wet.
