Take a varied walk through the city’s first suburb up to
Kristiansten Fortress and finish it off with a lovely meal at one of Solsiden’s many restaurants.
This is a nice walk, with only moderate elevation changes. Start out from Gamle Bybro, stroll through the cobbled streets of Bakklandet and make a right to get to Bakke bydelshus. This was formerly a church, but is now housing bedsits and a dance studio. If you continue climbing, you’ll get to Kristiansten Fortress, which is surrounded by a large park. Stop for a cup of coffee at the Restaurant Kommandanten and enjoy the view of the city. From here, you can walk down towards Møllenberg, and Solsiden is a nice place to end your walk.
An alternative route is to walk straight up Brubakken from Gamle Bybro towards Kristiansten Fortress. This hill is very steep, and is home to Trampe, a bicycle lift designed to help locals and tourists alike get up the hill more easily.
